Post #89: Celebrating National Volunteer Week

GBA

Every day, people and youth around the world dedicate their time to initiatives that shape and benefit their communities. There is a lot to learn from these inspiring individuals, and I had the opportunity to do just that, courtesy of Magna International Inc. and Neighborhood Network. On May 1, I was recognized in honour of National Volunteer Week for my efforts and commitment towards my school and local community. In this lovely ceremony, I heard stories of volunteerism from other graduating high school students across Aurora, Georgina, King Township, Newmarket, and Whitchurch-Stouffville, and I am so humbled to stand alongside them as recipients of the 2025 Give Back Awards.

As individuals, making the active choice to help others or give back is an acknowledgement that we thrive and grow alongside one another. It means respecting people from all walks of life, and working towards inclusivity, empowerment, and a standard of living and care. I am inspired to volunteer by my peers, whom I see bringing their passion to a variety of extracurricular commitments and projects. I am encouraged by my mentors, who carve opportunities for students like me to discover what it means to volunteer. I am supported by my family, who have instilled in me my key morals and the lesson that uplifting others is a means of uplifting the self. I am driven by this desire that I have cultivated to continuously leave my community in a stronger and more vibrant shape than yesterday. Through volunteerism, I hope to someday become an inspiration to somebody else in the same way my community has inspired me to express my individuality in the gentle pursuit of giving back.
