The Electric Vehicle

Electrical Vehicles Series (Part 2)

Electricity is pretty interesting. It powers many things that we use in our everyday lives. But one notable, yet wildly overlooked such instrument is the electric car. The majority of the population uses gasoline-powered vehicles, not electric cars. So why have I decided to look into this form of transportation?

The Earth has been majorly polluted. In order to save it, we have to try to limit or change the actions we take that release pollutants into the atmosphere. One of the main polluting factors are emissions of gasoline-powered cars. The energy-efficient alternative to these vehicles are electric cars. After I started to read about electric vehicles, my mind began to fill with questions, like how electricity improves cars. These inquiries pushed me to find out in what ways the electric car was better than gasoline-powered cars, and how they were worse. It got me thinking: if gasoline-powered cars can harm the environment by contributing to pollution…do electric cars also have a residual effect on the environment? I dug deeper and deeper and embarked on an adventure where I learned many facts about our environment and how we can protect it.

In my art piece today, I decided to draw an electric car. In particular, I took inspiration from the 2020 Tesla Cybertruck. When I saw it, it piqued my interest. It looked different from the regular cars and vans that we’ve been commonly exposed to. The vehicle features sharp angles and a futuristic look. This new release just made me more interested in the workings of the electric car. Putting this on paper was a bit of a challenge, since there were so many details to keep track of. In the end, I think it was worth it, because it shows just how interesting electric cars can be.

The whole sketch was done with pencils of varying hardness, with harder pencils for the car, and softer, blacker pencils for the background, as well as an array of shading techniques to really bring the piece together. I used pencil crayons for the lights to add a burst of colour and a bit of life to the drawing. While I was drawing this truck, I thought about the intrigue of electric cars, and how they had such complex inner workings, and that’s what I tried to convey in my artwork.

In my next article in this series, I am going to guide you through all of my discoveries. We are going to explore the mechanisms of the electric car and look deeper into how they work, why we need them, and what problems they could create that would need to be overcome in order to achieve a truly sustainable and eco-friendly vehicle. Stay tuned for more information!
